Samay is a unique collective of 5 young & highly accomplished musicians from India and Europe who take the traditional music of lndia combine it with jazz, flamenco, samba, funk and chill-out to create a colourful and seamlessly woven blend that leads the listener on a timeless journey spanning continents and defying categorisation. Play: Samay - Red Sea Jesse Bannister Jesse Bannister is a unique musician & the leading Indian classical saxophonist in the UK. His style transforms his instrument, producing sounds of a sweet and melodious flute at times or a powerful and direct shehnai at others. Jesse recently toured the United States and has also performed across Europe as well as India to high acclaim. He has played at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Barbican, and the Jazz Café in England as well as in collaboration with Siva Raman, and Harishankar. Jesse's unique playing & vision is at the very heart of Samay .Bhupinder Singh Chaggar Bhupinder Singh Chaggar is a young and exceptionally talented Tabla player based in Leeds. At the age of 17 with great fortune he became the disciple of the renowned Tabla maestro Pandit Sharda Sahai Ji, whose influence greatly enriched Bhupinder’s playing and attitude towards music. As well as playing Tabla solo performances, Bhupinder has toured the UK extensively and has performed internationally with the likes of Sri Dharambir Singh, Sri Kushal Das Ji, Smt. Purnima Chaudhari, Rajeeb Chakraborty, percussion virtuoso Rui Junior, Joclyn Brown as well as the Spanish Guitar Virtuoso Eduardo Niebla.Soumik Datta Soumik is a young British Indian from London and a rising star in the world of contemporary classical music. As a product of both his Indian roots and his western upbringing, he has developed a unique style, making him him one of the most prolific players of his generation. A student of Pt Buddhadev Das Gupta, Soumik, aged 22, has toured internationally as a solo classical artist. He has also collaborated with distinguished mainstream icons Talvin Singh, Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles. Recently, Soumik’s talent was acknowledged by External Affairs, Govt of India, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself which led to an invitation to Delhi. A graduate in English Literature from University College London, he is presently a MMus scholar at Trinity College of Music studying composition and orchestration.Giuliano Modarelli Giuliano studied jazz guitar at degree level & e went on to develop through the Indian classical tradition studying under UK renowned sitarist Dharambir Singh. His unique style is a subtle blend of world folk, Arabic, Flamenco and eastern European influences. His breadth of knowledge and soulful improvisation make him a musician well worth listening to. He has toured nationally with the acclaimed fusion band Raga Nova and has performed at the Purcell Room, CBSo, and the BBC venue in Leeds. 2006 saw him at Musicport world music festival with Samay for which he received high acclaim.Javier Geras Javier is a young original bass player who is primarily influenced by traditional Flamenco Music as well as Latin and Jazz. Since he graduated from the Leeds College of Music he has been engaging with different styles of music from various parts of the world such as Argentinean Tango and Indian Classical Music. He has been recording and touring with the Spanish band Frequencia Stress and several other music ensembles.
